Hey everyone!
Listen, this a VERY important announcement, so PLEASE read through until the end.
Okay, GamersCast has been around since August 2005, and we've grown a lot since then. However, every expense the podcast and website had to endure came out of my own pocket. Now, I know what you're thinking, but keep reading because this isn't going to turn out as badly as it sounds right now.
Anyway, since I've started I've easily spent over a thousand dollars for this project, and it was definitely worth it. But considering, I'm just an unemployed high school kid (shocking, isn't it?) it's getting pretty hard to afford everything.
BUT I have devised a plan to make it through! You see, YouTube has this partner program, in which entertainers can make money off of making YouTube videos. And I actually am pretty good at making videos (placed 4th at tech. nationals in 7th grade for Film Competition), so I figured that would be the way I could fund the podcast, because let's face it: Nobody wants to click on ads!
However, before I can apply for this partner program, I need to prove I have a sufficient fan base. So, all I need you guys (and girls) to do for me (this is all I'll ever ask you guys to do), is simply to subscribe to the GamersCastFilms Channel on YouTube!
You won't receive any e-mails by doing so (unless you've setup your YouTube account that way), and it won't effect you at all. All it will do is display a small message on the YouTube homepage when I post a new video. That's it!
If we can get everyone to subscribe, not only will I be able to continue doing the podcast as normal, but I should also have some money left over, which will also be used for enhancing the podcast further.
I swear that all profits made through videos will only be spent on the podcast and making more videos. I promise that none of the money earned will be used towards personal expenses.
So, please, if you want to keep GamersCast going strong, simply click the "Subscribe" button on the following page:
http://www.YouTube.com/GamersCastFilms
Don't think it's worth subscribing to? Other than a sense of accomplishment, here's a preview of what else you'll get from subscribing:

Check Mii Out Channel Update
An update is now available for the Check Mii Out Channel. Though Nintendo's e-mail made it sound awesome and urgent, it really isn't that big of a deal. To be honest, I think they just got it out that parental controls could be added to the channel. And if you've searched under the letter "P" in that channel, then I think you know why! XD!
Other than parental controls upto 20 pages of Miis can be seen per category, and at 50 Miis per page.
The Check Mii Out Channel will not function at all anymore unless you get the update, so it's kinda mandatory. You can get the update from the WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel.

GamersCast 26: Best of 07 Awards LIVE!
At long last our live episode of GamersCast is now available to download and is fully edited. And let me ensure you, it was very very difficult to edit a live show, but it was all worth it. It's our best of 2007 awards show!
Not only do we have our live show, but in the beginning is this week's GamersCast Gaming Update! Every bit of news in the past week of gaming!
And I'm also adding a new feature to the show! Well, it's not the show itself getting the face-lift this time, but it's the actual file. Now, we have notes enclosed into the show, so you read highlights and be linked to key sites that we are talking about while you listen! We have done something like this similar in the past, but now it works with every iPod made after the last quarter of 2005, including the iPhone and the iPod Touch! (Only the touch models will have the links) To see the notes, push the center button of the click wheel twice while listening. On the iPhone and the Touch tap the GamersCast logo once. These "notes" will be in the weekly GamersCast Gaming Update as well, and we may even put text versions of reviews inside the audio versions using this feature as well.
However, for iPhones and Touch you will need Firmware Version 1.1.3 or later in order for the feature to work properly.
Unfortunately, there will be no GamersCast Update this coming Sunday, and it's not just because of the Super Bowl (GO GIANTS!). It's for... other reasons.
Trust me, if I lost time studying for my mid-terms by putting this up, then I'm not gonna stop it just because of the Super Bowl. So, you're gonna have to take
my word on it for this one. But in the GamersCast Update after that, we will have 2 weeks worth of gaming news!
I hope you all enjoy episode 26 of GamersCast.

Brawl features Virtual Console Demos!
Today it was revealed that Super Smash Brothers Brawl will come available with Virtual Console demos. Many games such as Super Mario Brothers, Ice Climbers, Legend of Zelda, Star Fox 64, have already been confirmed.
The demos work by allowing you to play the game for a set time limit. Once time runs out, you see the following message, informing you that time has run out:

Though some games have pre-loaded saves in them, so you can start from different places. This works in games like Super Metroid, which was also confirmed.

What is unconfirmed is if this feature will expand through downloadable demos or is limited by the content that comes on the disc. And if it is limited, chances are Nintendo will make demos available in the future on the Wii Shop Channel. Also, every demo featured in Brawl, is available for purchase on the Wii Shop Channel. Most likely, these demos will act as unlockables throughout the game, but I could be wrong.
Not all of the titles that make use of this feature is yet known, though chances are each game shown will feature a character who is playable in Brawl.

Master System Appears on VC
Update: If you thought this post was originally awesome, it gets better! It was also just announced that shortly after the first Master System titles appear on the Virtual Console, Sega Mark III and Sega Game Gear titles will also begin appearing. Sega Mark III was the predecessor to the Master System in Japan. And the Sega Game Gear, was Sega's answer to the Nintendo Gameboy, making it the first handheld game download available on the Virtual Console.
Ah, remember that advanced graphics of the 8-bit era? Well, when most gamers talk about the 8-bit era, the NES usually takes center spotlight of the conversation, but believe it or not there were other successful systems in the time period. Ever hear of the Sega Master System? You know, that one that came before the Genesis?
Well, we have good news! Sega has officially announced today that Sega Master System games will soon be available to download through Nintendo's Wii Virtual Console service. It's going to kick off with Fist of the North Star for 600 Wii Points and Fantasy Zone for 500 Wii Points. The average price of game's for this console is expected to be 500 Wii Points, same as the NES downloads.
Master Drive systems will begin appearing on the Japanese Virtual Console around mid-February. It was also announced that it will appear on the American and European Virtual Consoles shortly afterwards.

Nintendo reveals 2008 game lineup
Nintendo has just released complete schedule of games that are going to be arriving on their systems through June. You can see the complete lineup in a PDF file, here. (PDF is iPhone compatible). In the release lineup, there's nothing really out of the ordinary, aside from Assassin's Creed DS not having an exact date in February (though I was told release is on the 5th).
This PDF will also be added to the podcast feed this weekend, and will be released in time with episode 26.

No more Gears downloads!
Epic games and Microsoft have just announced that they will no longer be making anymore downloadable content for Gears of War. While this isn't very unexpected, as it has been more than half a year since the last download became available, it does raise some curiosity. Some believe this is being done so that Epic games can begin working on a new project. Gears 2, maybe?

Halo 3's Reign of Terror Over?
Larry Hyrb also known by many as Xbox Live's Major Nelson works for Xbox Live. You may have seen him on the Inside Xbox feed on the Xbox Live blade interviewing people and showing many things Xbox 360 has to offer in Major's Minute. He posts many things on blog including updates on the Xbox Live Marketplace, his own podcast and what everyone looks at, the status of Xbox Live every week. He reports on the top ten original Xbox games played (Halo 2 is always on top), the top ten purchased Xbox Live Arcade Games, and the top ten most played games on Xbox 360 (this also includes demos and XBLA games). As you would expect, Halo 3 has been number 1 on the list since the week it launched. Since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare launched, it has stayed a close second place followed by some popular demos, Guitar Hero, and other retail games. For the first week ever, the order changed just slightly. For the week of 1/14/2008, Call of Duty 4 for the first time ever beat Halo 3 out of its place. Halo 3 came in second followed by the usual stuff. I personally like Call of Duty's multiplayer better than Halo because of the level system and I am also better at it. I rarely get the top spot in a team slayer match in Halo but when I play a team deathmatch game in Call of Duty 4, I usually get one of the top 3 scores. I knew this would come and the guys at Infinity Ward must be throwing a wild party. Call of Duty 4 is the first game ever to beat a Halo game for the most played Xbox game of the week via Xbox Live.

Xbox Live Outage = Free Xbox Live Arcade Game
As you may have heard in the past month, Xbox Live has been having some problems with their service lately. Just about every Xbox Live user has had problems in the past month. The only problem I had was when signing on to Xbox Live, the marketplace, Xbox Live, and games blade will not load and give me access to them. About two weeks ago, Microsoft promised all users a free Xbox Live Arcade game for the inconveniences. What will the free XBLA game be? It will be Undertow which is shooting game and one of the highest rated XBLA game of last year. Undertow will be free from this Wednesday 1/23 at 2 am PST and will remain free until Sunday 1/27 at 11:59 pm PST. If you have Xbox Live, make sure to get this free game while it stays free.

Huge News At Macworld (Full Keynote Inside!)
Update: Here is the full MacWorld 2008 Keynote, given by Steve Jobs. It's uploaded onto my YouTube Account. Click here to go to the video page on YouTube. (Use the link if you are using an iPhone or iPod Touch)
Before I begin writing about the great news that came out of Macworld, I just want to apologize about my post about Smash Bros. Brawl this morning. If I offended anyone by what I wrote, I apologize. That was unexpected news which caught me by surprise. I do not mean most of the stuff I said. I do not think in the mornings. Brawl is going to be an incredible game when it comes out and now I have much higher expectations for it. I don't know about Matt but my expectations will be so high that the score of this game could be lower than I would ever expect it to be if the game does not perfectly execute everything it said it would do. However, I am still going on my word and boycotting all non free (who can't resist free stuff) Wii software until Brawl releases. If I offended anyone I am sorry.
On a much lighter note, MacWorld started today in San Francisco and four huge updates and new products were shown. The first of four was a new accessory for Macs called Time Capsule which is a 802.11 n base station and an external drive. 500GB model for $299 and a 1TB model for $499. The second thing was software updates for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. The iPhone will have location on Maps, SMS multiple people, rearranging icons on the home screen, and webclips. This update is available now for free. The iPod Touch updates include five new apps including Notes, E-mail, Stocks, Weather, and Maps with location via Wi-Fi. It also includes rearanging icons and webclips. This update will come with the iPod Touch starting today and for existing owners, the update will be available today for $20. The third thing revealed was movie rentals on iTunes. All of the major players are on board. You can watch the movies you rented on your computer, all current gen iPods (iPod Touch, Classic, and Nano), iPhones, and Apple TVs. A new software update will be unleashed for Apple TV which will allow you to buy music, tv shows, and HD movie rentals on the Apple TV. This update will come out in two weeks. The price of Apple TV also droped from $299 to $229. The final thing shown was a new laptop called Macbook Air. It is the thinest laptop ever made with 80GB HDD, 2GB of ram, and Intel core 2 duo for $1799. Since the Macbook Air has no disc drive, an external disk drive is also available for $99. You can also install special software on a PC or Mac so it can "borrow" its disc drive. But what does this have to do with gaming? The iPhone SDK will release next month so we could be seeing native games on iPhone very soon.
Also two announcements from EA and Activision. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is going to be releasing to Mac OS X in May and Will Wright's highly anticipated game Spore is going to be releasing this year simultaneously on PC and Mac OS X. This looks like a great year for Apple.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl delayed!
Update: Japan has also been delayed from January 17th to January 31st.
Well, some of you may have noticed Adam reported on this, a few seconds after he found out. So, he was in an all-out rage, and almost killed 2 children (just kidding :-P). But anyway, the point is the message was edited, so that now it is safe for children to view. So, if anyone was offended by the content in Adam's post, I apologize.
But what you see is what you get. Super Smash Brothers Brawl has been delayed 30 days for unknown causes. Though the Japanese date currently remains the same, we here in the United States must now wait until March 9th to join the fray.
On the lighter side of things I do want to say this. I was gonna keep it secret until it was official, but considering recent events, I do want to bring some light to the situation. So, I want to let you all know that for a while now I have been working very hard to get an advance copy of Brawl, so this way, everyone could get an insanely extensive preview of the game. Not to mention loads of directly captured videos. But remain aware that it is entirely unofficial right now.

GamersCast Gaming Update!
Hey everyone! I very excited to announce a brand new segment to the podcast! It's the GamersCast Gaming Update! This is a new segment for all those weeks we can't schedule a full podcast episode! In the GamersCast Gaming Update, I'll quickly run through the past week's worth of gaming news (with some analysis) in about 5 minutes. But since this was the 1st edition, this week is 10 minutes long. And for the weeks we do have a normal GamersCast episode, the GamersCast Gaming Update will be inserted in the beginning of the episode. For example, next week's update will be played in the beginning of episode 26. So, yes, episode 26 will be released this weekend. I hope you guys like the change.
These updates will also be available on the podcast feed and the iTunes Music Store (for free as always).
Macworld Is Approaching- "There Must Be Something in the Air"
Macworld is a HUGE event where Apple shows off and even releases updates to products as well as new products. Last year, the iPhone was unveiled and showed off for the first time to the press. This year there will be much more news. Here are my predictions of what will go on tomorrow. Remember, these are predictions NOT FACTS. The real news will be posted here tomorrow.
iPod-Since the iPod line was recently updated, there will just be sales numbers and a new iPod commercial.
iPhone-Huge news for iPhone. Jobs will definitely talk about the iPhone SDK and software updates coming soon to iPhone owners and maybe although I doubt it, a new iPhone with bigger memory and 3G
Apple TV-Eiether a software update or a new Apple TV or no Apple TV news at all
Mac: No iMac updates but the Macbook line will get its long awaited hardware updates including an extremely thin and portable Macbook. There might also be an update to iTunes to allow movie rentals on iPods and iPhones

Goldeneye was WHAT?
Many fans of Goldeneye 007 wanted to see a revival of the game from the Nintendo 64 to the Xbox Live Arcade. Believe it or not Goldeneye was in development for Xbox Live Arcade but because Nintendo who has the rights for the game and Microsoft could not decide how to split the profit, the game was canceled. The sad part is that it was canceled TWO WEEKS before completion. It is sad to see a game that could have been extremely successful go down the gutter.

Assassin's Creed Confirmed for DS
Click box art for full-size image.

One of the greatest action games of last year was Assassin's Creed, being available on the Xbox 360, PS3, and cell. However, Nintendo fans were sadly unable to take part in the crusade. There was a rumor of a Nintendo DS version, many assumed it would end up like Halo DS.
Well, fear not, because the February 2008 edition of Nintendo Power has just confirmed an Assassin's Creed game to be featured on the Nintendo DS! The article features a few screen shots of the game with some pretty amazing graphics (by DS standards). The article's writers claim that though the game is 3D, it plays much like a 2D Prince of Persia game.
Except this isn't just a simple port being downgraded for a handheld. It's actually a completely different game! A prequel, actually. It may be a bit more linear and on a Nintendo system, but in the article the game producers state:
"The team spent a lot of time making sure the main character, Altair, as well as his allies and enemies move onscreen, are up to the ground breaking standards the Xbox 360 and PS3 set. Bringing a fluid dynamic 3-D movement for a character was not an easy task indeed. We had a top notch animation team that really put their heart into capturing the grace and deadliness of a medieval assassin. Assassin's Creed DS pushes to the limits of the DS hardware."
Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles will be released for the Nintendo DS on February 5, 2008.

The Soul Sword Has Met Its Match
Many of you may remember Soul Calibur II crazy characters like Link (Legend of Zelda), Heihachi(Tekken) and Spawn(Spawn) added to the Soul Calibur character roster on their respective platforms. At CES in Las Vegas today, a new trailer for Soul Calibur IV was shown. Along with many returning characters, there were two new characters that stood out. Darth Vader and Yoda from the Star Wars saga will be new caracters in Soul Calibur IV. With characters like these, online play and updated gameplay modes, this looks to be the best Soul Calibur yet. Look for Soul Calibur IV when it releases this summer on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

CES 08: Skype for PSP
Sony has just announced that Skype will soon be accessible through your PSP. Skype is a Voice over IP service which allows you to talk with others around the world, in amazing audio quality. This is actually the software we use to hold our podcast episodes, and I can say from experience it works remarkably well!
Skype will be available on your PSP after the next system update is released. This particular update is currently set to be ready by the end of January.

CES 08: Blu-Ray Interactive
At CES today, Sony again continued promoting the Blu-Ray format, by showing many new interactive features to come of it. These features include downloadable content from a service called "Blu-Ray Live" (real original :-P) and ways to transfer Blu-Ray movies from your PS3 to your PSP.
Now, the PS3 will be able to transfer a 2 hour Blu-Ray movie from the PS3 to the PSP, within 2 minutes with remarkable picture quality. Of course, you can't expect it to be as good as on your HD TV, but still pretty good.
That's the jist of it, but considering Blu-Ray movies will eventually get as big 300GB (or at least disc storage will be), I am a bit skeptical about how the PSP will store or support it. The demo only showed a 20 minute clip being transferred, so how this will all play out.... well, we'll have to wait and see, I suppose....

CES 08: 4K Technology Unveiled!
Well, Sony has done it. They have unveiled a display capable of showing video at 4 times the resolution of 1080p. You may call it 4320p if you wish, but for now it's just 4K Technology. In their display they showed this technology with a soccer game being played. However, there is currently no timetable for it's release.
Now, let's think about this from another perspective. As far as the format wars go, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are the top contenders, and while Blu-Ray seems to be getting more support from production companies, the format wars are far from over. Technically speaking the only advantage Blu-Ray has is about 5 GB more storage space per layer, with the possibility of 8 layers later down the road. However, as of now as far as we know, these formats can only play in 1080p, and with something 4 times as powerful out there, how can these formats live much longer? Not to mention if there isn't a medium to play 4k Technology with, what would be the point of purchasing such an insane TV? Unless, the currently unexplored 8 layers of Blu-Ray could potentially open up the possibility of 4k technology, the life cycle of these format wars may not last long. But at the current pricing of the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players, this generation could be skipped altogether.
On the gaming sides of things, this technology will definetely be utilized in the next generation of consoles, but now cost is the question. Considering how early in this generation that this is coming around, it will most likely be much more affordable once the next consoles come out in about 4 to 5 years. But as we have no idea, of 4k's official release or current pricing it still could be a bit pricey. Though, I have a feeling Nintendo will probably just stick to 1080p, to be more cost efficient and since it would very easy for them to produce this far down the line.
However, the very technical specifications of how 4k technology works is still very unknown so I could be very wrong in my speculation right now. I'll keep you posted on any further developments.

CES 2008: PSP GPS Navigator
A long time ago on GamersCast, I made a joke about Sony attempting to shove a GPS navigator inside the PSP. Well, guess what? IT HAPPENED!
Yes, a GPS navigator will soon become available on the PSP this Spring. Coming with a detachable GPS and a UMD disc of maps, the GPS will be able to give you driving directions to any destination no matter where you are (as long it's supported your disc)! You'll get a visual of your location through 3D maps and preloaded landmarks and points of interest to get you where you need to go. The GPS will also come with a car monunt and an Car adapter to save battery life on the road!
As I said before the GPS will be released in the spring of 2008 and will cost €299 to everything. Except there's just one little problem, once released maps of the United States are not included! But you will get maps of UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Nordic!
