Halo 3 Has Gone Gold!!!

Finally after 3 years of waiting Halo 3 is finally finished and factories will start packaging the game really soon. According to Bungie, Halo 3 is the greatest game their studio has ever created. This will be the biggest day for the Xbox brand since the launch of Gears of War by Epic Studios which sold over 3 million copies so far. Halo 2 sold 2.5 million units in only one day. If they start production this early, there will be a lot of copies to go around meaning that if you did not reserve a copy you will have a very good chance of getting it but if you can reserve it do so. Halo 3 is looking to be game of the year and one of the best games on the Xbox 360. Halo 3 will release on September 25 in North America and September 26 in Europe.

Metroid Dread DS near completion?

Today, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was released. It was final installment in the Metroid Prime trilogy and is said to be the final Metroid FPS.... ever. But with death comes life, and deep within the game, when Samus uses her scan visor she will get a cryptic message, reading as:

"Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion."

Metroid Dread has been a game that was rumored about for the DS in early 2006. It was part of a list of games, which were all eventually confirmed and released. So, could this be a hint that the game is more than a rumor?
Metroid Dread was supposed to be a 2D side-scrolling shooter, a sequal to Metroid Fusion for the Gameboy Advance.

So, is it more than a rumor? Or is Nintendo just pulling our strings? Only time will tell...

GC 2007: Halo 3 Forge Editor

Remember that Halo 3 news that we thought was gonna be hyped by a parking lot ferris wheel? Well, we got it! Bungie has announced a map editor for Halo 3, called Forge. Except this map editor doesn't work as a traditional one would.

Generally, there is one player during a forge map who can change the course. Though, this "forger" isn't a part of the in-game combat. This map editor won't allow you to change terrain either, it will stay how Bungie wanted it to be. Instead, you can create and delete spawn points, weapons, vehicles, and more throughout the course. These can be added and deleted by the "forger" as the match goes on.

To prevent overuse of memory, the "forger" will get a certain amount of currency (not real money) in the beginning of the match, so anything that is added will use up some of your currency, and once your out of currency, then that's as much your 360s memory can take. Remove objects and you'll get currency back as well. Hmm.... I imagine we could have some fun tournaments in this game mode....

As for spawn points, a certain amount must stay intact. Vehicles and weapons also cannot be removed while in use by a player either. That goes without saying. I'm going to admit, it's a very interesting feature. But is the "forger" just gonna be sitting bored watching the match, or playing jokes on people by deleting a warthog just as your about to get in? We'll have to see how that plays out....

Metroid Prime 3 Videos

In the beginning of this month, Nintendo kicked off their "Month of Metroid" with the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel, as their tribute goodbye to the Metroid Prime franchise and hype the final installment in the Metroid Prime series: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (along with putting Metroid and Metroid 3 on the Virtual Console)

Yesterday, they added the last two videos to the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel. But then, just today as I logged into the Nintendo Press Site, I saw they added one last special 60 second video, which is really weird, since they almost never add videos through their press site. Lucky for me, it was already converted into the iPod format, so it's already up on the podcast feed as well. Now below you will see the video, and as I've said before, if you're reading this via the newsletter, you'll have to hop over to: GamersCastPodCast.com/news to see it.

Also, I will also be uploading the last videos from the Metroid Prime 3 Channel over the weekend onto the podcast feed and our YouTube page, which can be found at:

YouTube.com/GamersCast

All of the other game trailers are up at:

YouTube.com/GCvids

And now, without further adue, here is the last Metroid 3 video until its release on August 28th:

GC 2007: Halo 3 Parking Lot :P

Well, Microsoft hasn't said much about Halo 3 at GC 2007 yet, but we can guarentee something huge will be announced. I mean, if they got a giant Halo 3 Ferris Wheel just lying around at the Leizpig Convention Center, then they're bound to cough up something.

Unfortunetely, there are no Halo 3 demos playable on the show floor, but there's still chance we'll find out something. Just don't lose hope just yet....

GC 2007: Super Mario Galaxy News

UPDATE: If you look closely at the Super Mario Galaxy trailer from E3 2007, you can see Mario's Boo form for a couple seconds. In case you missed it, here's the trailer again:

Apparently, in Super Mario Galaxy there will be high emphasis in transforming into other creatures. At E3 2007, we found out that Mario will be turning into a bee. And now, at GC 2007, we found out that Mario can turn into a boo. Yes, that's right a boo.

In past Mario games, such as Paper Mario, by using by Boo you could become transparent and go through walls and enemies. However, in Paper Mario you couldn't move while you were invisible. So, I'd bet this ability would be use in a very similar way in Super Mario Galaxy.

GC 2007: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity Announced

A sequal to Sonic Riders has been announced at GC today. It has been dubbed Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. It will be coming out for both the PS2 and the Wii next February at an MSRP of $49.99. This time around, nothing has yet been said about a PC version, and apparently Sega continues to endorse the PS2, as with many other developers. Strange, isn't it?

As of now, the Wii version will be using the controller's motion sensitivity instead of the Wii Wheel, which should be available by the time this game ships. But, we'll continue to keep you guys posted.

Nintendo Power gives Metroid 3 a 10!

Well, this morning Nintendo Power magizine has given Metroid Prime 3: Corruption a perfect score of 10 out of 10! Why is this such as a big deal, and why am I posting about it here? Well, Nintendo Power has been reviewing games for almost ten years now, and only one other game has ever gotten a 10 from them. And that game was Resident Evil 4 for the Nintendo Gamecube (Wii version got a 9.0 from NP). Not even Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, my pick for the #1 game of all-time got a 10 from Nintendo Power, it got a 9.5. Metroid Prime 3 getting a 10 really shows how amazing this game must be, and is already far surpassing my expectations of it. For Nintendo Power's full review of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, see the scanned image below. If you are viewing this from the newsletter, then you'll have to go to GamersCastPodCast.com/news to see it. Well, here it is:

Episode 23 of GamersCast was just released onto the podcast feed. In the episode we discuss the E3 Press Conferences, The PS3 and Xbox 360 price drops, the Wii firmware upgrade, but before we could get into further discussion, we had to cut the episode short because Steve began to get a migrain towards the end (which is why it got so shoppy during the last 10 minutes).

This channel is part of Nintendo's "Month of Metroid", in which they will be releasing new game videos and trailers through. New Wii Firmware Update

WARNING: IF YOU ARE USING MODCHIPS, NINTENDO SAYS THE UPDATE WILL CORRUPT YOUR Wii AND VOID YOUR WARRANTY!

Nintendo has just released version 3.0U (version 3.0E for PAL Wiis) of their Nintendo Wii Firmware. The update has effected the following on the Wii:

- Wii Menu
- News Channel
- Forecast Channel
- Wii Shop Channel
- Wii Message Board

The update is required, as the Wii Shop Channel will no longer work until you have updated your console. Here are the finer details of the update:

News Channel

On the Wii Menu you will now see news headlines on the News Channel icon of the Wii Menu, you wii also see more headlines when you select the News Channel

Forecast Channel

This one is simple enough. On the Wii Menu, you will see an icon informing you of your current weather conditions outside, though the same screen will appear upon selecting the Forecast Channel.

Wii Shop Channel

One of the biggest parts of the update is the new Wii Shop Channel design, which goes along the same theme as before, but goes upon an almost entirely new layout. The new layout also consists of new options, allowing you to search games by publisher, console, genre, and more. What's most exciting about the this, is that on the consoles page, they have added a scroll bar on the right and states "by system" rather than "by console", meaning we could see Gameboy games added to the Virtual Console in the future. After all, Gameboy has now joined our list of dead consoles (see a few posts under this one), so why not be added to the shop channel?

Wii Menu

Previously, it could take as long as 30 seconds for the Wii Menu to load, but now startup takes only 2 to 3 seconds in a worse case scenario! Also, you will now see the time as a digital clock just above the date. Next, when you enter a PIN number, it will now be concealed by asterisks. And aside from the icons of the News Channel and Forecast Channel changing, that's it.

Wii Message Board

Lastly, we come to the Wii Message Board. This is where you can get our famous GamersCast Newsletter (where you'll be probably be reading this right now). First, the bad: The spacing issue, has not been fixed (as you can probably tell). Now the good:

You can now move around letters and messages by holding A and B and dragging them to where you want them to go. You can also do the same to your contacts on your Wii's Address Book.
Next, the "Today" letter has turned white and is called "Today's Accomplishments", and will tell you everything you have done that day. The change has also be applied to previous days.

Overall, the updates all amount to a much more "user-friendly" interface, makes the Wii easier to use, and the startup time tremendously helps, especially for those of you who are upto their 4th page in Virtual Console games. But, I REALLY want that spacing issue fixed now. Aside from that, it's a worthwhile update.

New Nintendo DS Bundle

Nintendo has just announced this morning that they will be releasing a new bundle for the Nintendo DS. This time the bundle is with Brain Age 2. Not only will the bundle come with Brain Age 2, but also with a new limited edition Nintendo DS Lite. We have no pictures of the new handheld, though Nintendo did provide us with a description:

"The top half of the new Nintendo DS sports a smooth, glossy Crimson, reminiscent of a dangerous shade of lipstick or a cherry-red sports car. The bottom is a matte black – an Onyx yin that complements the Crimson yang."

The bundle will be released on August 21st at an MSRP of $150. We'll post pictures of the new DS once they become available.

At long last, we now see the very 1st price drop for the Xbox 360. And even better, the drop applies to all 3 models. The premium model will now only cost $350 (a $50 drop). The basic model is now $280 (a $20 drop). And lastly, the new Xbox 360 Elite will now only cost $450 (a $30 drop). These price drops will take effect on August 8th, 2007 to go along with the release of Madden NFL '08.
And the special Halo edition Xbox 360 will cost $400.

Manhunt 2 Delay Extended

After receiving an AO rating from our pals at ESRB, Manhunt 2 had to be delayed to "clean-up" some of the violence in the game so that it would be acceptable to Sony and Nintendo for their consoles and to sell at retailers. The delay pushed the game back from its mid-July release to an October 1st release, and now it has been delayed again. And Rockstar games says it MIGHT be out after the fiscal year ends in March 2008.

E3 2007 Ended....

Alright, I have been getting some comments wondering why I didn't post more during E3 this year. Well, the reason being is because most of the news came during the Press Conferences, which I already posted, and all the news from those conferences only required one post (though this may change by E3 2008). We will soon be making our press conference commentaries, and have our special post-E3 Edition of GamersCast. We have all 3 of the E3 Conferences over on our podcast feed and below (Quicktime Required). And of course, if you are viewing this on your Wii, you'll need to hop on your PC and head to GamersCastPodCast.com/news to see the videos.

Nintendo's Press Conference (Download: "Right-Click -> Save Target As..."):

Sony's Press Conference(Download: "Right-Click -> Save Target As...")

Now, don't be sad, E3 may be over, but the 2007 Tokyo Game Show (TGS) is just a couple weeks away! And of course, GamersCast will keep you up-to-date on everything happening on the show floor!

PS3 plays TV

Sony has just announced that they will be making a TV Tuner and a DVR for their PS3 consoles. This will allow gamers to watch TV live from their PS3, and record shows/movies onto their PS3s hard drive. Sony says they hope to have the hardware available by March of 2008.

Also, keep in mind that it has been rumored that there will be a TV Channel for the Wii as well, though it is just speculation at this point. And chances are, there will be a subscription fee for Sony's TV Tunner.
