Halo: Reach - Another Sales Record

Well, it was expected to hit hard and it did. Bungie's final Halo offering just released last week and Microsoft announced that the game's first day of sales grossed over $200 Million. This makes Halo: Reach not only the biggest video game launch all year, but the largest entertainment launch all year (including movies, music, tv, etc.).

But on the flipside of things, Microsoft's Major Nelson has announced that somehow Halo: Reach only amounted to be the 3rd most played game on Xbox Live all week. Modern Warfare 2 is still claiming top honors and right below that is, (believe it or not) Halo 3.

But for those of you, who like to look even deeper into the stats Bungie just released these first week stats on their website:

  • 70 Million+ Games have been played
  • 235 Million+ Player-Games have been played
  • 2 Million+ Files have been uploaded to File Shares
  • 5,901 man-years have been spent in online Reach games (sorry, Corporate America!)
  • 20 Million Daily challenges have been completed
  • 709,840 Weekly challenges have been completed
  • 165 Billion Credits have been earned
Since Halo: Combat Evolved first debuted nine years ago, the franchise has accumulated over 34 million units and over $2 billion in total revenue.
