The Games Came Out for the Spike VGAs

On the night of December 12, many celebrities and game developers came out to California to attend the annual Spike Video Game Awards or VGAs as they call it. Spike has been advertising that this years VGAs would have the most sneak peaks at future games, more than previous years. These previews stole the show as well as the six brand new games announced at the event.

New trailers of already known games such as Halo Reach, Crackdown 2, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Metal of Honor, TRON Evolution, and UFC 2010: Undisputed were impressive but short. Many of these previews like Halo Reach and a few unannounced games only showed CG cutscenes and no gameplay. Metal of Honor's trailer was mostly gameplay and was a standout among the new trailers.

As of new games, the show opened with the most unexpected sequel and the biggest surprise in VGA history. Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 was announced and a very short preview was shown. Many, including me call the first game the best superhero game ever created. The sequel will no doubt be amazing although it most likely will not release until 2011. The next new game announced was an all new True Crime game taking place in Hong Kong. It sure looked impressive

Another unexpected announcement was the return of Starkiller in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. Although the trailer was CG, it looked impressive and intense. The first game had mediocre controls but the story was amazing. The game will ship in 2010. Go to www.unleashed2010.com for more details.

Another new game is The Deadliest Warrior, based on the hit show on Spike. I am guessing it will release on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network because it did say "download 2010" at the end of the trailer.

Spec Ops: The Line was another big game announced at the VGAs. It looks like the terrain and sand will play a huge role in the game. Gameplay was shown and it looked impressive. No word yet on a release window.

The final game announced at the event was Green Day Rock Band. Green Day introduced the game themselves saying that their favorite songs and venues will make it into the game. The trailer showed gameplay of "American Idiot" and the avatars of each band member jammed on stage as notes flew by. Green Day Rock Band will release in 2010.

The show closed with Uncharted 2 winning the prestigious game of the year award. Go to www.gametrailers.com to see all the trailers shown in glorious high definition.
