Apple today during its annual WWDC Keynote revealed its future plans for the iPhone OS. Lots of great news concerning gaming on iPhone and iPod Touch.
iPhone 3.0 will feature new APIs for developers to use such as: In App Purchase (DLC), Peer to Peer via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (local multiplayer), APIs for online multiplayer, and more than 100 new features such as MMS, copy and paste, tethering, Voice Memos and more. The update will come out on June 17. It will be free on all iPhone users and $9.95 for iPod Touch users.
Gameloft unveiled Asphalt 5 which will take advantage of the new software, it will feature local and online multiplayer with voice chat. It will be released later this Summer
ngmoco showed off its newest game Star Defense to take advantage of online multiplayer and In App Purchase to buy expansions. It came out today and the new 3.0 features will come sometime after the 3.0 launch. They also showed off Rolando 2, LiveFire, and Touch Pets: Dogs at a separate event today. All of these games will launch this Summer on the App Store.
Apple finally unveiled the newest iPhone called iPhone 3G S. The S stands for speed. It is twice as fast as the current iPhone 3G. It will also take advantage of faster 3G using AT&T's 7.2 mps HSDPA+. It supports Open GL ES 2.0 allowing even better looking 3-D graphics in games. It also includes new features such as the new 3.0 MP camera with autofocus, video recording, editing and uploading, digital compass, and voice control. It will cost $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB when it comes out on June 19. The current 8GB iPhone 3G is now $99.
For gamers, this means better graphics and games that will let us connect to each other and play. iPhone cannot be ignored when said it is a competitor against the Nintendo DS and PSP. Stay tuned for more news as it comes.
