Halo 3 Breaks 24-Hour Record Sales!

Microsoft predicted profits of $150 million after Halo 3 was on store shelves for a day. They were quite a bit off. Over $20 million off to a bit more precise. That's right, Master Chief raked in over $170 million dollars from copies of Halo 3 being sold, after just 24 hours.

Not only does this break the previous record in gaming, which was being held by Halo 2, but it also beat out 24-hour sale records from other industries, including the movie industry, who's record is held by Spider-Man 3 at $59 million. In fact, it took the whole weekend to get upto where Halo has gotten in a day.

The only industry that hasn't been beat was the book industry (I suppose you could call it that) who's record holder is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which sold 8.3 million copies in a night and generating $207.5 million. Why am I bringing up Harry Potter? Well, in Microsoft's Official Press release they said they beat both Spider-Man 3 and Harry Potter 7, but in reality Harry Potter is still on top.

Despite this, in one day, Halo 3 has had over 5 million multi-player matches and over 600 million kills online logged so far. So, Halo 3's release has definitely been a huge success!

Be on the lookout for Adam Shear's review of Halo 3, which will appear on the podcast feed within the next couple days.
