Wii Music Dated

Nintendo only has two 1st party games coming out this year. Both are unbelieveably casual games. But this one in particular takes the cake. Wii Music has been slated for an October 20th release.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Delayed

As expected, the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince video game has been delayed. Most movie-games, come out as flops (usually) because the developers are constricted to such a tight schedule. But now that the movie has been delayed to July 17, 2009 this gives Electronic Arts a bit more breathing room and a lot more time to fine tune the game.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will be released across all consoles and handheld systems, coming this July.

Call of Duty 6 Confirmed

WOW! Call of Duty 5 isn't even out yet, but Call of Duty 6 was already confirmed! Call of Duty 6 is back in the hands of Inifinity Ward, the makers of Modern Warfare. The next game, Call of Duty: World at War, was created by the makers of flopped Call of Duty 3.

Call of Duty 6 is expected to released in the holiday season of 2009, but nothing has yet been confirmed.

Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City!

Let's face it. It's a slow year for gaming. We're going to have to get used to the fact that not every year can be like '06 and '07 was. This shows as Nintendo was only able to spit out one title in time for the holiday season. You know, I'm starting to wish that they delayed Brawl again, just so I would have something to look forward to! (Though I may be in the minority on that one).

Anyways, the one title Nintendo did manage to come out with is Animal Crossing: City Folk. Well, that WAS the game to be released. That is until Nintendo changed the name, to something even worse! So, now you have to go to the store and say, "Let's go to the City!" Yeah. The game is now called, "Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City!"

Feel bad? Don't worry! As of right now, the name change only took effect in Australia! (Sorry, mates.) The game is estimated to have an Australian release some time in the fourth quarter of this year. The game has also been slated for November 16th in the US. Now, let's just hope they don't make it a global name change!

Pokemon Platinum Released!

At long last Pokemon Platinum has been released. Unlike most generations of pokemon, the 3rd installment to the DS series, is being called dramatically different with brand new dungeons, gyms, and other goodies that weren't in Diamond and Pearl. The game has only just been released in Japan (with no estimate release date yet for the US), but GamersCast's own Stephen Caskey has just received his import copy of the game. He will be giving the game a thorough preview (minding that Steve can't read Japanese) on an upcoming special edition of GamersCast!

If anyone has any questions for Steve about the game, drop us an e-mail at: GCnewsletter@gmail.com and your question will be answered in our special preview of the game!

Apple Impresses with iPod Stats and New Lineup (iPod Touch As Next Great Gaming Device?)

Today, Apple showed off its new iPod lineup at its "Lets Rock" event in San Francisco. A new iTunes was released today with HD television shows, grid view of albums and genius playlists which put songs together that sound alike into one playlist.

The new iPod Nano replaces the wide design with something a little bit longer in length. It is the thinnest iPod to date. It also has an accelerometer built in for portrait and landscape viewing of the new user interface. New features include genius playlists and a "shake to shuffle" feature (which I think should be a standard feature in all iPods with accelerometers.) The new iPod Nano will be available in nine colors starting at $149 for 8GB and $199 for 16GB.

The new iPod Touch is even thinner and includes volume controls, a built in speaker for "casual listening," genius playlists and a Nike + iPod native app. It seems like Apple is trying to sell the iPod Touch as a gaming device. Spore Origins and Need for Speed from EA were shown as well as Real Soccer 2009 from Gameloft. Steve Jobs the CEO of Apple also called iPod Touch the greatest portable gaming device available. The new iPod Touch known as "The worlds funnest iPod" will be available in three different models. An 8GB for $229, a 16GB for $299 and a 32GB for $399. All of the products mentioned are available now.
The new software features in iPod Touch like genius playlists and Nike + iPod are available in software update 2.1 for first gen iPod Touches which will be free for all iPod Touch 2.0 users. The iPhone will get its 2.1 update on Friday which will fix many problems and bugs and will presumably have the new software features of iPod Touch.

Editor's Note: Just to clarify. When Steve Job's said that the iPod Touch speaker was for "casual listening" , he was actually making a mean joke. :-P

The iPod Touch speaker is the equivalent of the sounds a Game & Watch handheld system would make, to give you an idea.
